The Hooked Model, created by Nir Eyal, describes how companies establish user habits by designing products that become part of our routines. This template helps you map out the various aspects of the model so you can identify opportunities.
Four stages — triggers, actions, variable rewards, and investments — create these user habits. Let's see how:
- It begins with a trigger: something grabs your attention, like a reminder from your language learning app. You get curious to practise.
- Then, there’s an action: you open the app and do a quick lesson.
- You’re rewarded: the app shows you your progress, and maybe new phrases you didn't expect.
- Investment: you begin engaging with the app, making it more useful to your needs. You’re now more likely to use it again.
To apply the Hooked Model, write down the triggers, actions, rewards, and investments your customers experience with your products. This helps you design products that people find useful and engaging.
Software version 3.17 or newer is required.
