We all put things off sometimes, it's a common struggle.
The Triple check method helps you figure out why you're procrastinating, so you can get to the root cause. It asks three questions: "Is the task appropriate?" (Head), "Is the task exciting?" (Heart), and "Is the task doable?" (Hand).
Each question addresses an aspect of procrastination. The "Head" question focuses on aligning tasks with your goals and priorities. The "Heart" question is about your emotions about the task. The "Hand" question tackles practical challenges, such as lacking knowledge or resources.
To apply the method, first ask why you're avoiding a task. Then, use the template to answer these three questions:
- Is the task appropriate?
- Is the task exciting?
- Is the task doable?
You'll quickly see if it’s a head, heart, or hand problem.
For example, you might be putting off a task on your to-do list. Let's say you're able to do the task, and excited to do it, but don’t quite know where to start. You've identified it as a hand problem — and the solution could be to break it into smaller steps or ask a colleague for help.
When using this method, you're getting your brain, your feelings, and your actions all working together — making it easier to move forward.
