This template features a Seyes grid. This layout, also known as Grands Carreaux (large tiles) or French-ruled paper, has its origins in France and was created to help with learning handwriting.
The basic rules are as follows, keeping in mind each tile is a box with three horizontal lines inside (not including the lines that make the top and bottom of the box):
- Capital letters start at the bottom and extend to the third line
- Lowercase letters go to the first line
- Letter ‘stems’ that are looped (like the top part of a lowercase b or for example) go to the third line
- Stems that aren’t looped (straight, like d or t), go to the second line
- Anything that goes down (like the bottom of y or g), goes down two lines
While it’s perfect for learning and practicing handwriting or calligraphy, it’s also great for:
- Bullet journaling
- To-do lists
- Building puzzles or games like Sudoku
- Sketching with structure
- Design and typography
- Architecture or UI layouts
